DIY Christmas Wreath

I love Christmas time, especially the decorations. Each year I like to alter or remix items that I have to give them new life. This year I really wanted a wreath on my bedroom door to add to my festive mood. There are so many choices as to how to go about making a wreath. There is a consideration for size, color, and the most important making a real pine wreath vs. using/creating an artificial wreath.

I decided to make an artificial wreath from an already made wreath that had been used last year. I took out all of the items, leaving it bare, so I could start from scratch. Most of my materials I ended up using were also artificial or plastic. If you go this route, it will last much longer than a wreath made from pine - you'd essentially have to create one every year using a frame unless you had a way to preserve it.

Here is what I used for my custom wreath. The cool thing is I had everything on hand. The flowers I used I'd been wanting a way to keep them by using them in a craft project, but nothing worked out, until now. Get creative with your wreath and play with how you want it to look. Mine took about 20 minutes total because I opted for the easy route of using a glue gun.

Here we go!

So I gathered my materials trying to figure out the best way to go about this. I ended up not using the floral tape, ribbon or wire, but I will say when dealing with artificial flowers and such wire cutters are necessary because the stems will need to be cut and adjusted to fit into the wreath.

Before I began, I plugged in my glue gun and let it get nice and hot - about 5 to 8 minutes. Please be careful! It gets really hot and melted hot on your hands can hurt.

Using my wire cutters I cut all the stems from the flowers. There is usually an indentation on the flowers that will allow you to cut it easier. Trying to cut the stem without it is not recommended if it's really thick because it will most likely not be a successful situation - I speak from personal experience. Some of the flowers, like the glitter ones, I didn't have to cut and was able to stick them into the wreath with the wire part hidden under the green parts. I also did this for the glitter peacock feathers.

The pine of the wreath also contains wire making it easier to manipulate it and it can hide any wire or stems that can possibly be seen.

I arranged the flowers how I wanted them and got to work with the glue gun putting and ample amount of glue on and around the bottom of the stems. You have to work quickly with hot glue because it cools fast once it has left the actual gun.

After about 10 minutes of going around the wreath I ended up with this beauty...

I'm so happy with how it turned out and the overall cost was so much cheaper than buying one already made. If you are looking for another way to add a personal touch to the holiday season, there is nothing like creating decorations yourself!

Geometric Red

Getting into the holiday spirit this outfit has enough red in it to last me through to the end of the year. Although the fall/winter can be a challenge sometimes when figuring out what to wear, sometimes when I want a change, I switch to wearing a skirt. I am much more of a leggings girl, but everyone needs variety in their wardrobe.

Where I live it is finally starting to really get cold so I am able to pull out all of my heavier sweaters and coats. I am also on the hunt for cool looking sweaters this time of year. It is the best time to buy because there are some great deals for holiday shopping, but also after Christmas there are some major sales. I try not buy trendy items, but staples like solids long sleeve shirts, boots and anything I'd been eyeballing, but waiting for it to go on sale.

Okay now on to the outfit...

It's December! (Rihanna for River Island)

I can't believe it's December. My how the time has flown by this year. Lucky for me most of my Christmas shopping is already done!

To get into the holiday spirit I figured this outfit would hit the spot. I saw online that this most recent collection would Rihanna's last collaboration with River Island, so I said what the hay I'll get something from it. Quite a bit of the collection had sold out even with the pre-order, but for me when it comes to people pairing up with designers or retailers, I usually pick out one to two items that I really like.

I was in such a Rihanna mood the lipstick shown here is the RiRi Woo lipstick for M.A.C. I bought a few months ago - it only seemed right!

Here is my pick from this collection. Enjoy!

Black Friday

Well now that Thanksgiving is over, it's back to fashion. Since this past Saturday, I have been in the kitchen cooking up a storm of food and I'm so glad that there are another 364 days until this happens again. But don't get me wrong, there was great food and family, but for me this holiday is a lot more exhausting than Christmas.

Any who, here is a very warm outfit inspired by Black Friday. The good news is, I'll be at home shopping online because right now there is no way I'm leaving the house even if I wanted to, my body won't let me.

Enjoy!

The Tigress

So when I bought my teal BDG sweater, I also got this adorable dress. I loved the cutout back, but my love of tigers sealed the deal. I have a few dress but I don't really wear them as much as everything else in my wardrobe so anytime I get I dress that I can dress up or dress down, I'm constantly trying to find different ways to wear it.

For this look I actually stood in my closet and looked for something I wouldn't ordinarily pair together and I'm pretty happy with my result. I could easy add a pair of tights to give it more fall appeal.

I love this back! And the dress is really comfortable. It's not too short and the fabric is not too thin either!

All About Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix was such an amazing guitarist and I enjoy listening to the music he left behind. So there is no doubt when I found this shirt that had to get it. It reminds me of "Purple Haze" which is one of his most notable songs aside from his unique and awesome rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner."

I know a popular trend is to wear band tees of various rock and metal icons, but I feel if you don't listen to them or have at least a little bit of knowledge about the band it kind of boosts itself as a fad. So I try to only wear artists that I actually listen to. I know some people don't care either way (and that's fine), but to each is own, but it is important to know what and who you are wearing. I recently discovered a brand that was boosting a shocking image that made me think twice about purchasing it.

Here I layered my jean shorts over leggings just to see how it would look and it turned out to be pretty comfortable and stylish.

So here is the look...enjoy!

Turquoise BDG Sweater

BDG has begun to become a brand I wear more often. Between the fit of their jeans and their comfy sweaters, I love the level of comfort the brand offers.

When I saw this sweater I couldn't resist because it's my two favorite colors, black and turquoise. I also love the length and of course it's warm! It can be dressed up or down and here I opted for a more casual look.

Falling Leaves

I love fall and I love it when all the leaves fall off all of the trees. It adds to the beauty of it all. I had the urge to want to rake them into a giant pile and jump into it.

This look is pretty casual, but I love the fact that this is a layering shirt that can be worn by itself. Old Navy's shirts have been on the longer more tunic style side of life and I love because I don't have to worry about my shirt riding up or being too short. I'm not talking about an intended crop top, but the length where it doesn't look like it fits.

Enjoy!

Warm & Leopard

So for some reason my computer decided it didn't want me to post this week. I have no idea why it refused to cooperate, but I did a few things and now I'm back!

It's November! Thanksgiving is coming up soon and the holiday rush has begun! I love this time of the year, but my favorite part is hoping that it will snow! I grew up with snow and it has always been a part of this season. To me it just doesn't make sense without it!

Any who, here is a fun way to wear leopard introducing a different color but I still allow my boots to steal the show. Sometimes I'm in the mood to wear cream, but because it's such a light color and everything attracts light colors - stains, smudges and the unknown - so I tend to not wear this color too often.

Enjoy!

Oversized Hood Denim Jacket & Camo Dress

This jacket traveled a very long way to get to me and I couldn't wait until the temperature dropped to wear it. There are many styles of outerwear, but my favorite (which is also not as easy to find), are over-sized hood jackets. When I found this one, I fell in love with the color (it's actually black in person although it looks blue), but especially the hood. It fit right into my wardrobe and has become a jacket I wear every chance I get.

This dress was really cute on the web and when I got it in the mail, I was pleased with the overall appearance. Usually if I buy a shirt dress I always have to alter the length, but this time I was lucky enough that it fit without having to do that. Being on the shorter side of life I never wear a dress like this without a belt. It definitely looks like a nightshirt on me without it.

So as you can see the dress falls above my knee which is critical. If you are on the shorter side, always make sure the hemline of your skirt or dress is just above the knee or else you'll appear even shorter.

My First Vintage Find!

Much of my style is inspired and created from newer clothes and occasional pieces that are made from recycled fabrics or redesigned clothes. Occasionally I like to check out shops that have unique and one-of-a-kind items that help evolve my style.

A few weeks back I had the chance to visit a clothing boutique that I'd been dying to get to for the past few months. I tried the top in the store and there was no question that it was mine. Now that I've finally had the chance to check out The Wonder Shop, I will definitely be heading back the next time I'm in that area.

The stitching and construction of the top is very detailed and adds to it's overall vibe. I only have to make a small adjustment so that it lays a tad bit better on me, but it's not too obvious to keep me from wearing it. Being a very unique top, I mixed it with more textures of black still allowing it to be the center of attention. I will continue to find more ways to wear this as I let my inspiration be my guide.
