Simply Refreshing - Summer Lemonade

There is nothing like a nice ice cold glass of lemonade. Some people think it's such a chore to make because they either put too much or not enough sugar, too much water, or they don't squeeze enough lemons. I have a fool proof way I make lemonade and it turns out great every time!

Here is what I use to make a full pitcher:

 - 2 cups of fresh squeezed lemon juice (this amounted to about 8 regular size lemons, have an extra to slice)
 - A large pitcher filled 1/3 of the way with ice
 - 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 cups of sugar, depending on how sweet or sour you like your lemonade, (use 2 cups if  you want to keep the sweetness to a minimum)
 - 7 cups of water
 - A glass to taste

Step 1: Starting with 2 cups, I add the sugar to the pitcher with ice. This will dissolve the sugar quicker once the other liquids are added. I wait to add the remaining sugar because once you put it in, you can't take it out.

Step 2: Add the lemon juice and give it a few stirs.

Step 3: Fill the pitcher with the 7 cups water. Keep in mind that you have ice already in the pitcher that will also melt into the lemonade. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Taste and add more sugar or water depending on taste. At this point I usually add about 1/2 cup more sugar because I like my lemonade sweeter, but it's all about what you like.

Step 4: Fill up your cup, add a lemon slice & straw. Enjoy your wonderful creation sitting on the deck!

**If you want to make only half of what I made here, a good general rule to making lemonade is proportion. To guarantee a great batch of lemonade use 1 cup of lemon juice to 1 cup of water, and 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water. This makes a fairly sweet lemonade, but the best way to find out what you like, you have to play with the proportions.

Enjoy!

Lady in Red

Sometimes when you find something you love, you buy more than one. In this case, I found a dress at the Banana Republic outlet that I absolutely loved to the point of buying it in not only black, but red also. The black version of this dress can be seen here.

Check out the red version of this dress below. Since it is a bright color, I had to create a shape on my body so I wouldn't look like a red blob. This is also my first outfit with my Gravity T-Strap heels I bought from Lulu*s which I have to add are extremely comfortable!

Mixing It Up!

I love to play with different pieces in my closet. Skirts are one item that I find myself constantly trying to find ways to wear because they are probably the one thing in my closet I wear the least. Although I enjoy sewing them, the challenge can be "how can I wear it?" So here is one way I've mixed it up!

My First Purchase from LuLu*s!!!

LuLu*s has always appealed to me as far as always having stylish pieces. I'd been browsing for a while trying to figure out what I really wanted to buy. Sometimes I am indecisive when I see too much that I want, but then when I found these Dollhouse Gravity Black Studded T-Strap Pointed Heels. After searching a few other sites, I settled on ordering them here and I couldn't have been any happier!

The only downside to the shoe as you can see is some of the studs aren't exactly placed straight, but from a distance it goes unnoticed. The other thing that should be said is that I had to order them a 1/2 size bigger because they run small. They are lightweight and fit great so I don't really have many complaints. I can't wait to show you guys how I style these puppies! But overall I've had a great 1st experience buying from LuLu*s and will be ordering from them again!

You can find them on LuLu*s here. (At last check there were only a few left but don't fret if you're like me, you'll find them by any means necessary!)

Color Blocking Purple, Orange & Cobalt

For the fall color blocking is still huge. I think it is one of those trends that should stick around because everyone can pull off this look easy! Here I mixed a popular color combination along with a major trend for this fall cobalt (aka Sapphire - because it's my birthstone!). Here I played it up and made it a little on dressier side breaking up the colors with a black belt to better define my waist.

So I'm not one to get over excited about lipstick, but when I found this shade (it was originally bought for my mom) it is one of the few shades I really like. The only thing is it has to be this dark shade, nothing lighter. I guess I need to go get me a couple more tubes! || Lipstick: H&M "Wild Thing"||

What are your favorite colors to color block?

Hardcore Overalls

I recently posted one way I wear my overalls. Well this is the edgier version of my overalls. Beanies are huge right now and for the fall and I have tendency to wear my black one very often. It can be dressed up or down and I think it gives this outfit a little extra something. But out of everything, my favorite part of this outfit are the sunglasses I found from Urban Outfitters on sale! They add an unspoken confidence all their own. I love them so much!

One thing I always look for when buying overalls, shorts, rompers, etc is that they aren't too short. I these because I can adjust the inseam by cuffing or unrolling them.

Overalls & Florals

Overalls have been trending like crazy and after I had the slightly nightmarish experience when I tried to order some, a couple weeks later I found a really decent pair. Well here they are! They fit really well and I lucked up because they were the very last pair on the rack in my size. The floral shirt was some what of a gamble because I ordered it online, but I was happy with the result. It's a tunic style top and the colors have a "fallish" flow to them.

Denim & Leopard

I must admit, I love the look of all over denim. It is very clean, but extremely comfortable. Adding my Sam Edelman leopard booties makes it fun and playful, but also very fierce. This will definitely be in rotation in my fall style.

Gearing Up For Fall

With the fall shopping season in full bloom, I've been excited to begin coordinating outfits, cleaning out my closet with what I no longer wear, and adding some of the latest trends to my wardrobe . This particular trend has actually been a staple, (and a favorite of mine) for a while. I love plaid shirts and I am always looking for different ways to wear it. I prefer for them to fit slightly big, that way they have a little more versatility as far as how many ways to wear plaid shirts.

What's Up Doc?

I have always wanted a pair of Doc Martens and when a great opportunity met a great price, I went for it! These are the real deal. I've seen ones that are already broken in, but part of the adventure of owning these is the hardcore work it takes to make these fit to your foot. Everyone has a different story, but so far mine are off to an interesting start.

I didn't realize at first I had to break these in myself and almost sent them back. When I put them on the left boot was fine, but the arch over my right foot felt like someone dropped a hammer on my foot! It was horrible, but that was when I found out that it is common for something like this to happen. I am also one of those people that have the task of finding shoes that fit feet that are slightly different in size (my right foot is bigger than my left). So this was a painful reminder of this, and I keep the right boot stuffed with paper while they are not being worn.

They are really comfortable and I know that once I defeat the unforgiving, in-no-way-stretching evil leather, they will be a wardrobe staple. Plus I have a feeling I'll be buying a color pair like blue or purple, (but I've also got my eye on the cherry red!)

Bamboo Capture Tablet

I've been debating if I wanted to get one of these for a while. There are a few different types of these tablets and I had to figure out what I really wanted to use it for. After seeing my top two in person, it was between this one and the larger Bamboo Create, I decided on this one because the other was just way too big. I wanted to be able to travel with and the Capture is much more feasible to do that.

As you can see I've wasted no time playing around with it. After a few tries, I really was able to get into and go crazy! The butterfly was sketched onto the table with the pencil tool. I'll definitely be trying out my fashion sketches with the AutoDesk SketchBook Express that came with it!

Another cool this is that it doubles as a mouse, so it was truly worth the wait!

It's so exciting!

More Fashion Posts Coming Very Soon!

I've been crazy busy lately and have been working on gettin more fashion posts up! Stay tuned, they're coming! In the meaning time here is a sneak peek...

Food Fun: Ice Cream Soda!

Since I discovered there was a lactose free ice cream, I realized that is one of the things I truly missed eating. Growing there was a restaurant where I used to live that made these in any of their homemade flavors. These are really simple to make and you can do it with just about any flavor of ice cream, (sorbet could work too!).

Here is what I used:

|| Tall glass | Straw | Club Soda (you can also use a lemon-lime soda) | Ice Cream (any flavor) | Ice Cream Scoop ||

1. I add about 4-5 scoops of ice cream to the glass. Depending on how big your glass is you may need more or less. Don't push it down because you want the club soda to be able to go through to the bottom of the glass.

2. Next add the club or lemon-lime soda and watch the magic happen! Be careful not to overfill it or you'll have a bubbly overflow onto the counter. Using the straw (or if you want, a spoon), and gently stir the ice cream and soda.

3. This is the best part...enjoy it until the last drop!

I recently purchased a Bamboo Tablet (which I'll post about very soon) and have been playing around with it (as you can see).
